Attorney Ivan Mercado has been in private practice since 1996. He currently focuses his practice on corporate immigration, as well as international commercial and criminal litigation. Mr. Mercado also a cts as a consultant to companies and individuals interested in investing in the United States , and as a legal advisor on international legal matters
Mr. Mercado began his legal career as a law clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts. In 2000, Mr. Mercado partnered with Alexandra Rengel to create Mercado & Rengel in Massachusetts, later expanding to Miami and Madrid. Mr. Mercado also volunteers and contributes his professional expertise on a pro bono basis to several non-profit organizations.
Attorney Mercado has experience practicing in various jurisdictions in the United States including in Massachusetts, Florida, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He has also handled and litigated cases in Spain. He has also testified in foreign courts as an expert in international law. In his career, Mr. Mercado has tried more than a hundred criminal and civil trials to verdict.
Mr. Mercado is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. He went to law school at Northeastern University School of Law, in Boston, MA. In 2005, Mr. Mercado obtained a Master Degree in Law (LL.M) from Saint Thomas University School of Law in Miami, FL. He also holds a Master´s in Spanish law from the Universidad de Alcala de Henares in Spain.
Attorney Mercado has been a member of the Bars of the State of Florida and Massachusetts since 1996, he is also a member of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados of Madrid, Spain.
Mr. Mercado is a frequent lecturer before professional and educational groups. He has been invited to teach as a guest lecturer at Suffolk University (Madrid Campus) on Intellectual Property and US and EU comparative law. He has also served as in instructor on US legal matters for Bar Associations in Spain. Attorney Mercado has also appeared on radio and television as a guest commentator on legal issues.
